CD APY Calculator

Project the final value and total interest of a certificate of deposit from its principal, APY, and term.

APY, effective-rate, and CD figures are computed in your browser; we never see your account balances.

Try: Principal=10000, APY=4.5, Term (years)=5 → $10,000.00, 4.5%, 5 yr, $12,461.82, $2,461.82

How to use

Enter your deposit amount, the CD’s APY, and how many years it runs. Press Calculate — the projection is done in your browser with no upload.

The result shows the maturity value and the interest earned, assuming the rate stays fixed for the whole term.

FAQ

How is CD interest calculated?

A certificate of deposit pays a fixed APY for a fixed term. The final value is principal grown at that APY, and the interest is simply the final value minus what you put in.

Can I add money to a CD after it opens?

Usually not. CDs are lump-sum deposits for a set term. If you want to keep adding, a savings account calculator is the better fit.

What about early withdrawal penalties?

Withdrawing before maturity typically costs a few months of interest. This calculator shows the maturing value, not penalties. — By Alex Chen, personal finance editor
